Johnny Osbourne celebrates Jamaica’s Independence

A concert honoring Jamaica’s independence day had some guests literally at a loss for words.

Crowds packed into the Brooklyn Bowl on Friday, Aug. 5 to see the Reggae and Dancehall artists celebrate Jamaica’s 54th year of independence with musical performances. Guests danced, did some choreography, and when man of the hour Johnny Osbourne came out, some people even screamed, said one guest.

“I lost my voice because of the event,” said a guest who only identified as Alexandra F.

“I love Johnny Osbourne – I like to see him perform and dance. I was so excited screaming and dancing, in the morning I didn’t have a voice.”

The concert also featured choreography from international Dancehall choreographer Blacka Di Danca, who invited several guests on stage to dance with him, and performances by Red Fox, and Rice and Peas.

The event was as much a success, as it was healing for guests who anticipate the next concert.

“Everything was amazing — I can’t wait for LargeUp’s next event,” said Alexandra F. “Johnny Osbourne has an energy on stage that’s unforgettable. These legends make you feel a different vibration from their music — I feel like I went to through therapy.”
