The Jamaican American Law Enforcement Organization (JAMLEO) is extending a “heartfelt invitation” to nationals in celebrating the country’s 62nd Independence Anniversary on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 1 Police Plaza Auditorium in Lower Manhattan, at 6:00 p.m.

“This event holds special significance as the community gathers to commemorate Jamaica’s Independence Day, and honor our shared heritage and culture,” said JAMLEO President Danae McFarlane on Thursday. “It is a time for everyone to come together, celebrate their roots and strengthen the bonds of unity that connect us all.”

She said the celebration “promises to be a memorable evening filled with music, dance, food, and camaraderie.

“Attendance at this event will undoubtedly enhance the festive atmosphere and contribute to the spirit of togetherness that defines the Jamaican Diaspora,” said McFarlane, adding that “JAMLEO is dedicated to fostering a sense of pride and belonging within the community, believing that this celebration is an opportunity to showcase the richness of Jamaican heritage and celebrate collective achievements.

“Your presence is invaluable, and JAMLEO looks forward to sharing this special occasion with you,” she continued, urging nationals to email at info@jamleo.org. “Let us come together to honor Jamaica’s 62nd year of Independence in style and unity.”

Meantime, the Jamaica Consulate New York said on Wednesday that the much-anticipated Jamaica Independence Church Service, originally scheduled for Sunday, August 11, at 4 pm, at the First Cathedral in Bloomfield, Connecticut, will be rescheduled and relocated.

“This decision has arisen due to unforeseen developments that have necessitated adjustments to our plans,” said Jamaica Consulate New York Community Relations Officer Chris Benjamin. “We fully recognize the significance of this service in the calendar of our Diaspora community, as it represents a cherished opportunity for us to come together in celebration of our heritage and independence.

“Please be assured that the Consulate General Staff is diligently working to arrange the service for a later date, which will be announced soon,” he added. “We understand the disappointment this may cause to our friends and family in Connecticut, and we are committed to hosting a service there. We are now working towards making this happen for a future date and location to be announced shortly.

“We are committed to ensuring that this important event will take place with the grandeur and spirit it deserves,” Benjamin added. “Your understanding and continued support are greatly appreciated as we navigate these changes.

“Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our community and heritage,” he continued. “We look forward to celebrating with you all at the rescheduled service.”
