Mt. Vernon Mayor Clinton Young, Jr. and Westchester County Board of Legislators Vice Chairman Lyndon Williams hosted a special reception at Mount Vernon City Hall in honor of Mrs. Lorna Golding wife of Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding, visited Mount Vernon Saturday, June 18.

Mrs. Golding, in town to commemorate Caribbean American Heritage Month in Westchester County, was presented with a Key to the City at a reception hosted by the mayor.

“It was my pleasure to present Mrs. Lorna Golding with the key to City of Mount Vernon,” the mayor said, adding that
“her altruistic spirit and strength resonated with many community members in our city.”

The first lady has been a tireless worker in the promotion of literacy and children’s programs throughout the world.

Assemblyman Eric Stevenson and County Board of Executives’ Vice Chairman Lyndon Williams played lead roles in arranging Mrs. Golding’s visit.

“Mount Vernon is so beautiful,” noted Mrs. Golding. “I will always remember the warm reception I received here. I can’t wait to go back to Jamaica and tell the prime minister of the wonderful time I had in Mount Vernon.”

The City of Mount Vernon is home to the largest Caribbean American community in Westchester County. Mrs. Golding was greeted by many local dignitaries and community members including the County Board’s vice chairman and members of the City Council.

“As a proud Caribbean American, I believe Mrs. Golding serves as a true inspiration to all ethnic groups in Mount Vernon,” Williams said. “On behalf of the Westchester County Board of Legislators I join Mayor Young in celebrating Caribbean Heritage Month and honoring Mrs. Golding in our city.”

Mount Vernon City Council President Karen Watts and Council member Diane Munro-Morris also expressed their admiration for the first fady during the reception.

“I am proud of the leadership of this city in bringing Mrs. Golding to Mount Vernon. She is very gracious and her presence is an inspiration to all of us,” stated Watts.
