Jamaica defeated Guyana by 10 runs in their group “A” Nagico Super 50 tournament. A delightful batting display from Nkrumah Bonner of 122 runs with 8 fours and 5 sixes that pushed Jamaica from 97 for 4 to 243 for 7 wickets in 50 overs. Veerasammy Permaul with 2 wickets for 45 runs, Rensford Beaton beat on 2 for 56 and Devendra Bishoo 1 wicket for 3 runs. Guyana started well with Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Trevon Griffith gathering 88 runs for the first wicket. Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 65, Trevon Griffith 37 and Assad Fudadin 21. Guyana reached 233 all out in 49.5 overs.
Andre Russell 3 wickets for 51 runs from 9.5 overs and Sheldon Cottrell 3 for 62 from 10 overs were the main contributors to destroy Guyana.
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO BOWLED OUT CCC FOR 98 RUNS
Trinidad and Tobago bowled out Combined Campuses and Colleges for 98 runs in 44. 2 overs. For Trinidad and Tobago, Dwayne Bravo picked up 3 wickets for 19 runs from 10 overs, Jason Mohammed 3 for 19 from 10 overs while Sunil Narine and Ravi Rampaul got one wicket each. Evin Lewis 44 runs from 27 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes and Lendl Simmons 38 created victory for Trinidad and Tobago as they raced to 100 for 4 in 16.2 overs winning by a wide margin.
Guyana and Jamaica already qualify in group “A.” Trinidad and Barbados are the qualifiers in group “B.” It will be an exciting finals with all four teams playing very hard for the honors. The teams that bowl effectively and hold the catches should win the competition. Some players have shown some top class performances so far in the competition. For Jamaica, Andre Russell, Nikita Miller, Tamar Lambert, Andre McCarthy and Nkrumah Bonner slammed a spectacular 122 against Guyana.
FOR TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
Lendl Simmons and Denesh Ramdin have been consistent with the bat. Sunil Narine from his first game proved how destructive he can be by picking up four wickets.
SMITH AND CARTER IN TERRIFIC FORM
Barbados has some power hitters in Dwayne Smith, Jonathan Carter and Ashley Nurse. Carter already has a century in the regular competition and he should be looked at closely in the semi-finals for a big score. Smith’s swashbuckling approach can turn the fortunes easily for Barbados.
BEATON, BISHOO AND PERMAUL MUST BE ECONOMICAL
Some very tight bowling must be exhibited by the Guyanese bowlers. Fast bowler Rensford Beaton, spinners Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul must be on top of their game causing the opposition to score very low thus giving the Guyanese batsmen an easy opportunity to win games. Ramnesh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul must play to their best and Christoper Barnwell must have a great semi-final.
