Isaiah’s Temple of Mt. Hope Spiritual Baptist Church, a faith-based organization in the East New York section of Brooklyn, will next Friday night honor at least three outstanding members of the community, including a politician, at a gala ceremony at Paradise Manor on Avenue U in Brooklyn.
According to Her Grace, the Most Rev. Dr. Voni B. Johyn, the Jamaican-born senior pastor and founder of Isaiah’s Temple of Mount Hope Spiritual Baptist Church, the honorees, at the Aug. 11 event, will be Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams; Errol McGlashin, vice president, M & T Bank; and Minister Rico Jenkins of the Family Federation of Unification and World Peace.
“It is with love and appreciation that I extend congratulations to our honorees,” Dr. Johyn said.
Her church provides community services in the East New York and Brownsville communities in Brooklyn.
“Biennially, Isaiah’s Temple of Mt. Hope extends recognition to well-deserved individuals, who, through hard work and personal sacrifice, continue to enrich the lives of others,” she added.
At Isaiah’s Temple biennial gala awards ceremony, Dr. Johyn said the church honors outstanding business, political and clergy individuals, who “provide significant contribution to their respective communities.”
“At this event, we carefully select and honor outstanding clergy, educators, justice, law enforcement, business and political leaders whose contribution has been a stellar example to their community,” she said.
Dr. Johyn said Brooklyn Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, representative for the 9th Congressional District in Brooklyn, will be this year’s keynote speaker.
Two years ago, Isaiah’s Temple honored honored 10 outstanding members of the community.
The honorees were: Barbadian-born Justice Sylvia Hinds-Radix; Trinidadian members of the clergy Pastor Mervyn S. Passie, Bishop Majorie Trim, the Rev. Eric Wyllie and Minister Dionne Smith; Jamaican-born pastor Archbishop Fr. Allan S. Jones; Clinical Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Janet Larghi; Assembly Member Latrice Walker; Guyanese Archbishop Dr. Pamella Taylor; and Vincentian Spiritual Baptist Pastor Naomi Harper.
Mayor Bill deBlasio, United States Sen. Charles E. Schumer, Congresswoman Clarke, who was also the keynote speaker, and Council Member Dr. Mathieu Eugene were among elected officials and others who extended congratulations to the honorees and Isaiah’s Temple of Mt. Hope.
Dr. Johyn said her temple has made “incredible impact by providing support and spiritual guidance for New Yorkers in Brooklyn and beyond.
“This congregation has long united people in fellowship, and it has stood as a pillar of leadership that has embraced others through its ministry and outreach,” she said.
