The students of Impressions Dance Theatre will take to the stage of the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, at 153-10 Jamaica Ave., to begin their ninth Annual Recital, on Saturday, June 25 starting at 4:00 p.m.
Themed “In Retrospect” the students are adding the finishing touches to their choreographies for a two-hour show of exciting performances in a variety of disciplines that include tap, Hip-Hop, Classical, Pointe, Modern, Jazz, African, Praise/Liturgical, Indian Classical, Kathak Rhythms, and many more.
The tots and teens will perform to music recorded by popular artists including Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, and Nina Simone. A special tribute to the former King of Pop Michael Jackson will be the highlight of the afternoon of performances in three levels of instruction.
Artistic Director Verna Walcott-White celebrates the diversity of the students whose parents hail from Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti, Antigua, Canada and Guyana.
The students of the Cambria Heights Impression Dance Theatre have won numerous awards for their show-stopping performances, and have performed at the Guyana Folk Festival in Brooklyn, New York City Hall, York College and at several award functions hosted by Congressional and City Council members.
Walcott-White said she is proud of the incredible milestone her students have reached and looks forward to another spectacular presentation. She is inviting everyone to come out for what will be a fun-filled afternoon of movement.
