City Council Member Crystal Hudson, representative for the 35th Council District that encompasses Crown Heights in Brooklyn, on Tuesday launched the 2024 Summer Youth Series.

“Last year, we launched our first-ever Summer Youth Series, where we saw hundreds of our young neighbors join us for fun, free programming––like painting, skateboarding, and videography––throughout the summer, in partnership with Pratt Institute, the Brooklyn Museum, BRIC, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard, among other cherished local institutions,” said Hudson, whose grandparents hail from Jamaica and Honduras.

“Today, we’re proud to announce the 2024 Summer Youth Series,” she added. “This year, we’re excited to be partnering with the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, Rooftop Films, and 4Play Roller Skating to host a series of five FREE events for our community’s youth.”

Hudson said the series will kick off on Friday, July 12, at Fort Greene Park (Myrtle Lawn). by screening a short film series titled “Growing Pains: Coming of Age Stories.”

“The lawn will open at 7 p.m., and the screening will begin at 8:45 p.m., and we hope you’ll join us for an evening of family fun,” she said.

Hudson said all of the events are FREE and open to the public, and that only one event will require pre-registration: Skateboarding Clinic on Aug. 24.

Registration for the Skateboarding Clinic will open in the coming weeks, Hudson said.
