The four-day event occupied the venue, Playa del Carmen and brought together some of the most important jazz musicians. An estimated crowd of 35,000 people attended the event.
According to Jeanette Rigter, public relations manager, “This edition of the festival took place at this time, Nov. 25-28 due to the overwhelming response from the audience in past editions.” She added: “Previously, the event lasted only three days, but since 2009 it extends to four days to the delight of the audience, with the extraordinary landscapes of the destination and the certified quality of the musicians.”
In the line-up of entertainers were Mike Stern, a renowned jazz and jazz-fusion guitarists and six-time Grammy nominee; Eldar DJangirov, acclaimed pianist; George Duke, composer and producer who in 1990 was named “R&B Keyboardist of the Year” and Grammy nomination for some of his productions; John McLaughlin, extraordinary English guitarist, jazz fusion composer, who was honoured in 2003 by Rolling Stone Magazine, as one of the “100 greatest guitarists of all time,” and Yekina Pavon, thrills audiences with her interpretations of jazz, boleros and romantic music.
A variety of entertainers such as the Manhattan Transister, bass player and composer Hiram Gomez, Ivan Lins, Grammy Award Winner for Best instrumental Performance and Best Jazz Vocal Album also attended.
