President of the Barbados Football Association (BFA), Randy Harris, became the first Barbadian to be elected to the prestigious FIFA Council during the 40th Ordinary Congress of the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), which was held in St. Lucia.
Harris joins re-elected Caribbean representative Sonia Fulford of the Turks and Caicos Islands, while Martinique’s Maurice Victoire was re-elected to the CONCACAF Council.
As a result, Harris, also the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) president, disclosed that he would not seek re-election.
However, Harris said he planned to continue as president of the BFA as he has spent almost five decades as a football administrator.”
“It is really an honor and a privilege to be elected as a member of the FIFA Council. I am looking forward to being able to strengthen the voice of the region at the global table and to continue to support the FIFA president’s vision in the development of football globally,” Harris said.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, congratulated the BFA president, Harris, on being elected to the FIFA Council.
In a social media post, Mottley described Harris’ election as a “well-deserved achievement.”
“A historic moment for Barbados! Big congratulations to Randy Harris on his election to the FIFA Council, the first Barbadian to ever hold a position on this high-level football body,” Mottley said.
“With close to five decades of dedication and leadership in football administration in Barbados and the Caribbean, this is truly a well-deserved achievement.
“We look forward to seeing you champion local and regional football on the global stage,” she added.
