Harlem Week started as a one-day tribute in 1974 and now Harlem Week has evolved into a multi-venue, month-long celebration of the community’s rich economic, political and cultural history. Harlem Week runs from late July to late August.
Under the banner of Summer in the City and Harlem Day, a college fair, a children’s festival, a “dancing in the street” party, fashion shows, a tennis clinic, a health fair along with music concerts and film screenings are programmed to celebrate the diverse and rich fabric of Harlem.
Amateur Night at the Apollo concerts-every Wednesday (with surprise musical guests) are added into the mix.
Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer’s Office, in its active outreach, is co –sponsoring a number of events as part of the Harlem Week celebration.
Aug. 8: Youth Technology & Career Conference 2.0, 11 am – 5 pm, Our Children’s Foundation, 527 West 125th St. This conference for young people, ages 13-24, will feature sessions on careers in technology (21st century jobs), technology-based exhibits and demonstrations in the workplace and special hackathon activities focused on health, music & arts, and community relations.
Aug. 15-16: Harlem Day Children’s Festival (12 – 7 pm, West 135th St bet Malcolm X & Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvds) features exhibits, games, arts & crafts, live music, dance, free health testing and sports clinics.

Aug. 14-16: 50th Anniversary of Holcombe Rucker Park Basketball.
The 50th Anniversary celebration of the famed courts at Holcombe Rucker Park is a special celebration, with many NBA pros returning to where they got their start: 155th and 8th Avenue. Arts Students League’s 22” x 30” show continues in the MBPO Gallery.
