They’re going more Caribbean!
A Harlem eatery is introducing a new menu inspired by Caribbean cuisine. The owners of Cove Lounge joined a partnership with the Broadway revival of the musical “Once on This Island.” As an official partner for the show, starting Feb. 1 the restaurant is adding new Caribbean dishes and drinks to their menu, said the co-owner.
“The partnership was brought to us and since we are a Caribbean-American restaurant with a fusion of Caribbean food, I thought this would work because we both share similar ideas,” said Billy Council.
On the menu is salt cod fish fritters, island wings, crab cakes, and more. From Tuesday to Saturday, the restaurant will be offering prix fixe dinners that include an appetizer, an entree, and a cocktail of choice. On Sunday a prix fixe brunch offers an entree and a cocktail, and everyday the island-inspired cocktails.
Along with the specials, guests who present their ticket stubs from “Once on this Island,” will receive a 15 percent discount.
The lounge’s Thursday night food and drink menu is already dedicated to serving Caribbean cuisine options. But this time around there will be even more offerings and there will be a rotation of guest chefs from the Caribbean introducing their own creative twists to the entree list. Alyah Horsford, who is the principal owner of Cove Lounge, always wanted to bring a feel of the Caribbean to the restaurant, added Council. And this partnership is another opportunity for them to work that in.
“She wanted to bring a Caribbean flavor to Harlem. Our menu consists of American soul and a splash of Caribbean food, so we decided Caribbean night on Thursdays, and we try to bring different chefs in from all over the Caribbean islands,” he said.
Council said as one of the leading hangout spots in Upper Manhattan, this joint relationship goes to show they are about community also.
“Cove Lounge is the best lounge in Harlem right now, and this partnership is something that’s being added on to what we already do here,” he said.
