The Consulate General of Guyana to New York, Barbara Atherly will host Dr. Raquel Thomas-Caesar, director, resource management and training of Iwokrama, Guyana, in a presentation titled: Iwokrama: Guyana’s Gift to the World, on Dec. 5, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the Consulate, 308 W 38th St., New York City.
With more than 24 years of management, research and training experience in natural resources management with in-depth knowledge of sustainable forest management including forest certification issues, tropical forest ecology, bio-diversity, and climate issues, Dr. Thomas Caesar, will share her knowledge, on a celebration of 30 years, since one million acres of Guyana’s rainforest were made available to the world for research and development.
Her management, nature based tourism, capacity building, and community related work in the environment will allow her to share pertinent information on tropical forest ecology and related training on the environment, she earned during studies in Paramaribo, Suriname, the Netherlands, London, Philippines and Australia.
The conservationist, who has held discussions on Guyana, is demonstrating sustainable use of rainforest resources at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, will also, through a power-point demonstration share the beauty of Guyana’s rainforest and vast hinterlands during her two-hour presentation.
Dr. Thomas-Caesar, the former head of planning and research at the Guyana Forestry Commission, researcher, Tropenbos Guyana program, and CEO, with responsibilty for the development of business partnerships for timber harvesting, training and tourism, is expected to generate much attention during the engagement and Q&A following her presentation.
