Also known as Mashramani, a word from the Indigenous people meaning “celebrating after cooperation,” Republic Day commemorates Feb. 23, 1970, the day Guyana became a republic.
Each year, this day is celebrated with festivities honoring Guyana’s diversity. These celebrations often include a colorful parade, steel pan contests, calypso and soca concerts, and much more.
