Several members of the Grenadian community in Brooklyn has extended overwhelming congratulations to Ruth Elizabeth Rouse, a former Grenada United Nations ambassador and distinguished senior public servant, who earlier this month was appointed Secretary to the Grenada Cabinet.
“It is my pleasure to congratulate Ms. Ruth Rouse on her appointment as cabinet secretary and would like to wish her a successful mission,” Derek Ventour, a leading Caribbean entertainment promoter in Brooklyn, told Caribbean Life. “What an excellent choice based on expertise, experience and talent.”
Harold Pysadee, a veteran and popular Grenada radio personality, said Rouse’s “vast experience in the civil service, working at various ministries; her experience in the foreign service makes the ideal person for the post of cabinet secretary. Congrats!”
Community activist Joy Ratan said Rouse’s commitment has been “exemplary, and her hard work is always an inspiration.
“May God add His blessings!” she said.
Jude Phillip, another Brooklyn resident, said: “Ms. Rouse’s, hard work in the service has proved that her new appointment was destined for her. It was the right decision by delegating the post as Cabinet Secretary. Congratulations are in order!”
“Congratulations on a well-deserved promotion to Ms. Ruth Rouse. It is the Lord’s doing to reward her years of hard work in the service”, said Hermelyn Daniel.
“I just learned that Ms. Ruth Rouse has been appointed cabinet secretary for the government of Grenada. I wish her all the best and God’s blessings in her new position,” said Merlyn Friday-Gilmore.
Businessman Joseph “Big Joe” Henry said it was “my pleasure to extend sincere congratulations and best wishes to Ms. Ruth Rouse on her new appointment as cabinet secretary of Grenada.”
“I express my warmest congratulations to Ms. Ruth Rouse on her new appointment. It is well deserved. I have every confidence that her tenure as secretary to the cabinet would prove fruitful and rewarding,” said Claude Sylvester.
According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister in Grenada, Rouse was appointed the new secretary to the Cabinet, effective Jan. 6, 2020.
“Ms. Rouse has a long and distinguished public service career, having recently served as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Legal Affairs and since joining the Grenada Public Service in 1982,” the statement said.
Since joining the Grenada Foreign Service in 1982, Rouse has served in various capacities, including: Permanent Secretary (Acting) Ministry of Legal Affairs, Grenada (2007 – 2008); Ambassador / Permanent Representative of Grenada to the United Nations (2004 – 2007); High Commissioner for Grenada to the Court of St. James’s (U.K.) (1999 – 2004); Non-Resident High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa (2000-2005); Chief of Protocol to the Government of Grenada (1996 – 1999); and in a regional capacity at the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States High Commission in Ottawa, Canada (1990 – 1996).
Rouse holds a Master of Arts (distinction) in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Westminster, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Arts in French and Spanish from Carleton University, Canada.
She has completed 34 years in the Public Service of Grenada and is the recipient of the 1998 Independence Award for Exemplary Public Service.
Rouse said she takes pleasure in serving her country, as well as the wider objective of “creating a safer world in which all humanity can live.”
Her motto is: “What man has done, man can do!”
Born in the Parish of St. David, Grenada, she is the last of four children to E.G. and Rebecca Rouse, Ruth Elizabeth speaks English, French and Spanish, and has a working knowledge of German.
“I am indeed honored to be asked to serve in this important position,” Rouse told Caribbean Life, adding it was her “desire is to give of my best in support of the Cabinet and the Public Service of Grenada.
“With a new era upon us, we have the tools to become more effective, more efficient, more productive, and to work smartly, as a team, to the benefit of this beautiful island,” she continued.
