Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson on Saturday joined co-founder of Bronx Night Market, Marco Shalma of MASC Hospitality Group (MHG), in kicking off the Annual Bronx Summer Concert Series.
Gibson, whose father hails from Trinidad and Tobago, told Caribbean Life on Monday that Saturday’s event at Fordham Plaza, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. was “an unforgettable, fun-filled evening of live performers that included DJ Riddim; energetic dance routines by The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, Kids Breaking League; the soulful sounds of Ayanna; and the lively rhythms of Johnny Mambo & Friends salsa music.”
She said Saturday’s concert concluded with the spectacular sounds of reggae music filling Fordham Plaza’s Bronx Night Market courtesy of Ricardo & The Fusion Band.
Traditionally held at the Orchard Beach Pavilion, The Bronx Summer Concert Series, for the second year in a row, will be featured at locations throughout the Bronx, Gibson said.
She said the traditional site is undergoing a US$87 million renovation project to restore the 140,000 square foot boathouse, once considered the crown jewel of Pelham Bay Park, to its “former glory.”
“We are excited this summer for the return of our Bronx Summer Concert Series,” Gibson said. “Our residents and families will have the opportunity to enjoy free performances and entertainment while safely recreating at our local parks.
“I want to thank Marco Shalma and our sponsors for their partnership on making our kickoff a success, and we look forward to seeing everyone as we travel across the borough,” she added.
