West Indies hard-hitting opening batsman Chris Gayle has signed a CARICOM-brokered agreement with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), but with a ‘side-letter’ whose contents are yet to be disclosed.
The WICB said St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves provided a copy of Gayle’s ‘side-letter.’
“The matter was discussed and the board will respond to the prime minister shortly,” the WICB said.
The Jamaican Gleaner reported that the agreement, which was drafted by CARICOM in a bid to resolve the impasse between the former West Indies captain and the board had been signed by the WICB recently.
However, questions still remain over Gayle’s comeback to the West Indies side.
He is contracted to represent Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming Indian Premier League this month and Somerset in England’s domestic Twenty20 tournament later this summer.
A resolution to the year-long dispute between Gayle and the WICB was raised at a high-level meeting recently in Dominica but no decision could be reached.
Before the meeting, the Gleaner had reported that Gayle was likely to either submit an apology or retract his comments made against the board and Windies Coach Ottis Gibson during a radio interview.
