In response to the significant interest in maintaining and expanding the range of free summer entertainment opportunities in Brooklyn, Borough President Eric Adams says the Wingate Concert Series, at Wingate Park in East Flatbush, will begin on Monday, Aug. 7.
“I have been working aggressively to identify and secure new organizers that can deliver great performances this season,” said Adams on Tuesday, disclosing also that the Coney Island Concert Series, held at Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island, will debut in early September.
“As one of the millions of New Yorkers who grew up on free summer concerts in the city, I join our communities in expressing true appreciation to City Parks Foundation and Globe Star Media-N-Entertainment, as well as our partners that are exhibiting true corporate citizenship, for carrying the torch on these summer staples,” he added. “I’m proud to serve as a host for these exciting evenings of entertainment.”
Adams said the series will kick off with “Gospel Celebration” on Monday, a one-year anniversary celebration of the “Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell” nationally-syndicated radio show.
There will also be performances by Anthony Brown, Erica Campbell, Tina Campbell, Ricky Dillard, Jonathan McReynolds, Papa San, Anita Wilson, Brian Courtney Wilson, and the Christian Cultural Center Choir, as well as a tribute to Pastor Timothy Wright, Adams said.
On Monday, Aug. 14, Adams said there will be performances by “The Legends of Hip-Hop,” including Big Daddy Kane, C+C Music Factory, Chubb Rock, Das EFX, DJ Enuff, DJ Scratch, M.O.P., and Special Ed.
“The Soul of R&B” on Monday, Aug. 21 will present Will Downing, Full Force, Fred Hammond, MC Lyte, Kelly Price, Jeff Redd, Cheryl “Pepsii” Riley, and James “D-Train” Williams, as well as a special surprise guest, Adams said.
He said the free Wingate Concert Series will end on Tuesday, Aug. 22 with “Afro-Caribbean Flavor,” including acts such as Dahved Levy, Denroy Morgan, Morgan Heritage, Mr. Easy, Nheon Mark, Rayvon, Red Fox, Rupee, Sting International, and Tanto Metro and Devonte.
All shows are scheduled to begin at 7 pm, with gates to the public opening at 6 pm.
Additional details regarding dates and performers for the Coney Island Concert Series will be forthcoming, Adams said.
“Bring out your family and friends for these great free concerts,” he urged.
