The Guyana Independence Anniversary Celebration Committee (New York) and SHIELD Cleaning Company, in collaboration with Vybz Up Radio HD and One Destiny Labor Day Mas Camp, invite the public to their annual free Kids Sports & Family Fun Day on Aug. 12, at Canarsie Park (Seaview Avenue & E87th St.), Brooklyn.
According to Rickford Burke, chairman of the Guyana Independence Anniversary Celebration Committee (New York), the event runs from 10:am to 6 pm. The theme of the event is “Let’s move, Let’s educate.”
“The fun day is designed to emphasize the importance of family in the lives of our children, and promote awareness of social and health challenges, such as poverty, cancer and autism, which adversely affect children and families in our community,” Burke said.
He said children and families from communities throughout New York City will participate in a day of sports, fun and games, and compete for a chance to win monetary support for their charitable causes.
Burke said hundreds of children who are returning to school will receive gifts, including free bag-packs and school supplies, stressing that the event and activities are free.
SHIELD Cleaning Co. is a successful family owned business that provides cleaning services to residential and commercial facilities in the New York City area and New Jersey, Burke said.
He said the company commenced this initiative two years ago to help prepare underprivileged children for the new school year, stating that the initiative is part of the company’s charitable outreach efforts to give back to the community.
“We are excited about our collaboration on this effort,” Burke said. “It is an essential partnership in community service that will benefit our local communities for years to come.”
He said the activities will be “children-friendly” and will feature sack race, lime and spoon, Tug-O-War, Dog & Bone, among others.
“We invite you to bring along your children and family for clean, safe fun,” Burke said.
