African-Americans thespians and producers on Broadway will be honored on June 4 for their roles in theater.
While some are shut-out from the Tony Awards process of honoring actors a few distinguished personalities will be acknowledged for outstanding performances as well as excelling with raising the public’s consciousness of humanitarian causes.
Slated to be held at the James E. Davis 80 Arts Building at 80 Hanson Place in Brooklyn, honorees will receive the Vanguard, Audience Development and Humanitarian Awards.
Alia Jones-Harvey, producer of the Tennessee Williams’ classic drama “A Streetcar Named Desire” will receive the Vanguard. Kevin Anthony and Sean Hollingsworth, producers, B2 productions will also be honored. Jesse Wooden Jr., director, and Marcia Pendleton, founder and president of Walk Tall Girl Productions will receive the Audience development honor.
A humanitarian award will be presented to MAAFA and Black Nativity.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the George H. Murray Preparatory Academy, a small pre-K through 8th grade private school in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.
