The 12th Annual Fall for Dance Festival is in full swing. The first performance of the five program festival was on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The festival runs to Oct. 11 with the final performance of program five, which ends the festival for this year. The programs are rich as always. This year’s festival presents 20 international dance companies and artists.
Performances include: a world premiere by Michelle Dorrance; a New York premiere by Pam Tanowitz; U.S. premieres by La Compagnie Hervé Koubi, Jesús Carmona & Cía, L-E-V and Steven McRae; and New York premieres by Bill Irwin and Tiler Peck, Companhia Urbana de Dança, Fang-Yi Sheu and Herman Cornejo, and Houston Ballet.
The two-week festival comprises five unique programs (each program is repeated once) with performances by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Bill Irwin and Tiler Peck; Boston Ballet; Che Malambo; La Compagnie Hervé KOUBI; Companhia Urbana de Dança; Dorrance Dance; doug elkins choreography, etc.; Fang-Yi Sheu and Herman Cornejo; Houston Ballet; Jesús Carmona & Cía; L-E-V; Miami City Ballet; Nrityagram; Paul Taylor Dance Company; Project FFD: Pam Tanowitz; San Francisco Ballet; Stephen Petronio Company; and Steven McRae.
As part their educational initiative, New York City Center and the Department of Education co-present a Fall for Dance Festival Lab where dance educators take master classes focusing on repertory featured in the festival. This year there are two pre-concert panel discussions with festival artist moderated by dance scholars, which are free and open to the public. The festival also features free pre-show dance lessons
The Grand Tier lobby is a place where attendees can gather, relax, mingle, and enjoy a cocktail or a snack. It is also the place where you can take part in a pre-show dance lesson and converse with festival artist.
A major feature of this festival is the ticket price, which is comparable to the price of a movie ticket. The festival remains accessible and affordable, and is an event that the whole family can attend together. Even if the performance is sold out, you still have the possibility of seeing the show. Everyday house seats are released for sale. Check with the box office to find out the time of the release and be there to purchase the tickets. House seats are always good seats.
