Most of us are familiar with the term, “fairy godmother.” But now, New York and New Jersey residents have the opportunity to become an honorary “Hairy Godmother” or “Hairy Godfather” to a child in need through a unique partnership between Disney On Ice and the American Cancer Society.

Disney On Ice will donate $2 for every ticket purchased for the local engagements of “Dare To Dream” using the code “HAIR” to the American Cancer Society to help fund wigs for children suffering hair loss as a result of medical procedures or treatments such as chemotherapy.

In addition, Disney On Ice is donating complimentary tickets for “Dare To Dream” so that these youngsters and their families can enjoy the show together. At each opening night, an American Cancer Society child will be chosen to participate in the show by helping to light a Chinese lantern, just like the scene from “Tangled,” the animated film featuring Rapunzel.

“We are excited to partner with Disney On Ice for this unique Hairy Godmother/Godfather campaign,” said David Pulli, director of Patient & Family Services for American Cancer Society.

“Disney On Ice is encouraging everyone who is considering purchasing tickets for Dare To Dream to use the code ‘HAIR’ so that together, we can make the lives of these young children a little brighter in the midst of the struggles they are going through,” said Deborah Mann, director of Event Marketing & Sales for Disney On Ice.

Many of these custom wigs are made by American Cancer Society volunteer, and owner of the FaceStation salon, Andrew DiSimone. Andrew has been volunteering his time for three years and estimates he has made over 150 wigs, which are created using real human hair obtained from donors. Each wig takes more than 35 hours to create.
