Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is EVERYBODY’S, the Caribbean-American magazine, Person of the Year. On Sept. 7, 2015, Dr. Rowley led the Peoples National Movement (PNM) to victory by winning 23 of the nation’s 41 parliamentary seats.
Dr. Rowley was the most influential newsmaker in the Caribbean. All eyes were on him and the Trinidad & Tobago electorate. The people of Trinidad & Tobago regardless of political affiliations deserve high praise for dignifying themselves in the keenly contested election. “We Americans as we prepare for the 2016 presidential election need to copy a page from Trinbagonians,” states a release from the publisher Herman Hall.
The magazine thanked its readers and social media friends for helping it to declare Dr. Rowley as “EVERYBODY’S Person of the Year.”
“We acknowledge Grenadian-Britisher Lewis Hamilton, the 2008, 2014 and 2015 Formula One World Champion, Olympians Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Usain Bolt of Jamaica as well as Olympian Kirani James of Grenada and Baroness Patricia Scotland, incoming Commonwealth Secretary-General who was born in Dominica. They were the choice of many subscribers,” according to the magazine.
“Our 2015 Person of the Year citation will be presented in 2016 to Prime Minister Rowley either in Trinidad & Tobago or New York providing he accepts,” states the release.

Since 1978, EVERYODY’S has been naming an individual of Caribbean heritage as its “Person of the Year.” During its early years, the magazine held a dinner in NY to honor the person. Recipients who attended the gala included Noble Laureate Sir Arthur Lewis, Congressman Mervyn Dymally, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, Prime Ministers Eugenia Charles, Tom Adams and H.A. Blaize.
In recent years, the magazine announced the honorees such as Usain Bolt, Kirani James, Roger Toussaint and The Mighty Sparrow but held no receptions.
