To open their playoff run, in the PSAL post season Championship tournament, under sunny skies, Erasmus HS defeated JFK HS by a score of 28-0.
Erasmus running back Shaquell Jackson led the way with a big rushing game and two touchdowns. Erasmus’ quarterback Wayne Morgan directed the attack both in the air and on the ground.
In the next round, Erasmus will face Boys and Girls. Boys and Girls beat their first round playoff opponent, Flushing, by an identical 28-0 score. Both Erasmus and Boys and Girls are playing well for the last third of the season. In a previous meeting, the second game of the season, Erasmus Hall defeated Boys and Girls in a close game 14 to 6.
Erasmus coach Danny Landberg said, “Boys and Girls is a tough game. Erasmus feels like the underdog because it is difficult to beat a team twice.”
There is every reason to expect their upcoming playoff rematch will be close. In the other portion of the same quarterfinal bracket, Clinton will play Fort Hamilton, which has only two losses on the year. Clinton has two of the top 15 rushers in the league, Ashton McKenzie and their quarterback Ryan Camillo. Marvin Centenno is 16th in the league in rushing for Fort Hamilton.
On the other side of the bracket undefeated Lincoln will play surging Jefferson this weekend at Lincoln. Jefferson upset Canarsie at Canarsie to get to this second round.
Lincoln’s Jessel Jones is the league’s second most prolific passer in yardage and he can run. Lincoln’s running back Kareem Folkes is the fourth leading rusher in the league. Dajan Dixon for Jefferson is the ninth leading receiver in the league.
Always formidable, Tottenville will host Campus Magnet in the other playoff game in this bracket.
