Episcopal Health Services Inc. (EHS), a prominent health system on the Rockaway Peninsula, has announced the appointment of Dr. Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM as its new chief executive officer.
Bishop Lawrence C. Provenzano, chairman of the EHS Board of Trustees, made the announcement Thursday, marking a significant leadership change for the health system.
Morrish, who has been with EHS since 2013, initially joined as the chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology but has served most recently as the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO). During his tenure as CMO, Morrish spearheaded the hospital’s strategic initiative, focusing on innovative healthcare delivery. His leadership is credited with enhancing quality, patient safety, and satisfaction within the health system.
Recognized for his excellence in medical education and leadership, Morrish has received accolades from many notable institutions. His academic credentials include a Master of Medical Management degree from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. He is also a trained Residency Program Director, certified by the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology Program Director School.
Furthermore, Morrish is an accomplished author and has co-authored numerous publications in his field.
In a statement, Provenzano expressed gratitude to Gerard M. Walsh, the outgoing CEO, for his leadership and the growth EHS experienced under his tenure. Walsh, who will be retiring in March 2024, will continue his involvement with EHS as a member of the Board of Trustees and will be supporting the St. John’s ICARE Foundation in its fundraising efforts.
“I look forward to working with him as he moves into this new role and leads the system to achieve the strategic goals we have set forth,” Provenzano said.
