Entertainers rally around Caribbean Day of Giving

Several entertainers have added their endorsement to the Caribbean Day of Giving Mediathon taking place on Saturday, Oct. 26. Among the growing list of artists are gospel reggae singer Lieutenant Stitchie, Bahamian Quadruplets FOUREVER1, dancehall and reggae singer Richie Stephens, international reggae artist King Tappa, Grammy nominated reggae ambassadors Third World and the Bahamian artist and music producer, Julien Believe.

The all-day fundraising effort in support of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas will be live-streamed at www.caribbeandayofgiving.com 11am to 6 pm from the Flatbush Caton Market located at 2184 Clarendon Rd, Brooklyn, New York. The program will feature exciting entertainment by Tropical Fete Inc. steel band ensemble and stilt walkers and The School of Integrated Learning MS 354 dance ensemble. Dignitaries, community leaders, entertainers and students will also participate and share their first-hand experiences with the devastating impact of climate change, provide updates on the relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts and make appeals to encourage the Caribbean Diaspora and friends of the Caribbean to donate.

All monies raised during the 2019 mediathon will go directly to the Caribbean Day of Giving (CDOG) charity partners, namely: the Bahamian American Association Inc. (BAAI) in New York City, American Foundation of the University of the West Indies (AFUWI) and the Sandals Foundation. The relief efforts will benefit several agencies actively on the ground in the Bahamas including the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA). In his message of support the Bahamian cultural ambassador Julien Believe said, “The Bahamas is my home! We are open for business! We are very resilient people. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support; it means a whole lot to us. We are humbled by all the efforts to help us rebuild. Caribbean Day of Giving (CDOG) is organized by a Caribbean Diaspora Disaster Relief Coalition in response to recent devastating storms and the increasing vulnerability of our small island states. This growing alliance of community leaders across the Caribbean diaspora was organized to help build capacity and strengthen response to natural disasters in the Caribbean region by promoting a collective response to disaster relief among the Caribbean diaspora.
