Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams said in a written message to the members of the Tots and Teens, that education was the key to success and congratulated the youths on the success of their Annual Dinner Awards on Dec. 21.
“To the founder and the parent committee of Tots and Teens, I salute your dedication and your support of programs that are made possible throughout the community,” said Adams, who reminded the youth of his dream to make a difference in his community while growing up.
Community Board 17 District Manager Sherif Fraser who received a citation from Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams for her role in organizing the Guyana Unity March on Church Avenue this year, in turn, presented a citation to Israel Adeyanhu, from the borough president, and certificates and citations from Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Councilmembers Mathieu Eugene and Jumaane Williams, and Senator Kevin Parker, at the function that was held at St. Stephens Church Hall, Brooklyn.
The recipients were: Steven Bishop, Faith Smith, Mazie Kienemund, Blossom Parris, Ingrid Compton, Faith Parris, Damali Trim, Sonel Sandy, Solange Stewart, Chantee Parris, Sierra Trim, and Faith Smith.
Fraser’s insightful speech called on parents to bridge the gap between their children and their neighborhood block, and the community.
“I want to encourage adults to get involved in their community,” said Fraser, adding that parents would see the benefits that derive from their environs.
The community support honoree, member of the Historic Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum and initiator of the Flatbush Civilian Observation Patrol (COP), inspired members of Tots and Teens to become active in the community, and reminded parents about voting in politicians who would work to improve their community.
Tots and Teens honoree and Travel Span executive, Allison Mason was the emcee for the event where the youngsters sang and danced to celebrate the outstanding contributions the organization has made to improve the lives of community youth.
Founder and CEO Patricia Trim of the 13-year old organization and host of the Tots and Teens In Focus TV show on BRIC congratulated the youths before appointed Faith Parris, Chantee Parris and Blossom Parris as the new executive youth leaders of Tots and Teens.
Trim, whose vision began with the Guyana Tots and Teens, has received many honors for her outstanding work to promote and improve the lives of young people though her organization.
Through its academic and cultural programs, the organization continues to inspired and nurture children in partnership with Sesame Flyers after school program and the Brooklyn Library.
The Child of the Year and Ambassador Youth initiatives, yearly seminars, and parenting Circle of Women program have enriched the lives of many children.
Trim thanked Negla Parris, Uanda Harris, Marilyn Trim, Pastor Lisa Singh, Uncle Leo Restaurant, Pam and Steve Restaurant, and many others for their support.
