Brooklyn Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs and Dr. Roy Hastick, president of the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry joined community and religious leaders and residents from Brooklyn’s East Flatbush Caribbean community, in welcoming the Caribe Funeral Home and Floral Studio to the neighborhood.
Owner, Joseph Fasano says the facility, located at 1992 Utica Ave. (between Ave. K and Ave. L),was established to fill the need for a funeral home in Brooklyn with which the Caribbean population could identify.
Among the vast array of services specifically designed to cater to the Caribbean community, the funeral home offers the option of videotaping services and live streaming via the Internet — a service which can be invaluable to families of deceased who live in the Caribbean and are unable to travel to New York for a memorial.
“As legislators in Albany, funeral-related issues frequently come before us and we are very active in defending the concepts and laws that have been put into place to protect people who are perhaps at their most vulnerable” Assemb. Jacobs told the crowd. She also noted that she and her staff “legislatively and economically support the efforts of local entrepreneurs such as the Caribe Funeral Home and Floral Studio in order to both support the neighborhood with new services and bolster the economy through job creation.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the face of our community, and I am proud to be here to offer my support for a venture that will make our community stronger,” she said.
