As the summer travel peaks, carriers to Guyana are vying for market share to airlift passengers to the South American nation with fares upwards of $700.00, round trip from JFK International Airport to Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
To this end, two of the main airlines, Fly Jamaica Airways, and Dynamic Airways, are staying competitive in the market by boosting its cabin crew to provide satisfactory service to meet the demands of the traveling public.
Earlier this year, Fly Jamaica Airways, owned by Guyanese Captain Ronald Reece, and Director Roxanne Reece, increased its crew with 20 newly trained flight attendants, who joined the airline’s scheduled twice weekly flights from JFK to Kingston and Georgetown, and Canada.
Just recently, Dynamic Airways, a US-based international airline, followed suit, and began a six-week training of 25 Guyanese, to work as flight attendants on its Boeing 767 wide-body aircraft.
Guyana Roraima Airways, headed by managing director, Captain Gouveia, who partnered with Dynamic Airways four years ago, said the airline has reached a significant milestone with the hiring and training of an added 25 young Guyanese cabin crew. The recruitment comes ahead of the airline’s plan to begin daily flights between New York and Guyana, said Capt. Gouveia.
He added that his company is pleased to be at the forefront of job creation, and noted that Roraima Airways, which started with four employees 25 years ago, has grown to about 300 employees, spanning 16 divisions across the travel and tourism industry.
According to a report, Roraima / Dynamic partnership has thus far trained 56 flight attendants. The flight attendants that began training on June 12, will complete their instruction on July 31, 2017, in time to meet the demands of the summer rush, along all Dynamic Airways routes.
Captain Carlson, chief pilot of Dynamic Airways, noted that the airline will continue to serve the New York — Guyana route, and added that Dynamic Airways is dedicated to affordable, reliable, and safe operations.”
