Dr. Cary Daniel was born and educated through high school in Haiti where the seeds of being a healthcare provider started. “I witnessed my neighbor suffering so much while giving birth and was helpless while my father transported her from the village to the city hospital.” It was then he knew “that being in the healthcare field would be a direct way to make a difference.”
Dr. Daniel is a family practitioner at Maimonides Medical Center, working in the outpatient clinic on Nostrand Avenue and at Grace Family Medical on E. 96th Street.
He earned a bachelor’s of science at York College, worked as a physician assistant, and then attended medical school in Dominica.
The doctor pays tribute to his late father as the most influential person in his life and career. “He taught us to be humble, respectful, and honest, always emphasizing the value of hard work. He cautioned on the danger of selfishness, ambition and greed. I am reminded of his advice and miss him dearly.”
He also acknowledges doctors in the community including Henry Paul, Bernadette Sheridan, Jean Claude Compas, Jean Pratt Daniel, and Derek Chung for their mentoring.
First hand, this doctor observes that obesity, antibiotic resistance, and the prevalence of dementia are challenges he faces, along with educating patients regarding compliance to a treatment plan and the importance to focus on preventive measures. “It is not easy but it is a worthy endeavor.”
With an objective to help the community, Dr. Daniel offers his services through his church, community health fairs, and educational programming.
He participates in NOAH-NY’s yearly medical missions to northern Haiti that see more than a thousand patients. He also helps organize monthly health care clinics in his home village Dondon where “the need is tremendous.”
