After placing second for the last two years for medium-sized bands in the Junior Carnival, Diamond Entertainment & Crew is hoping to snatch the top prize this Labor Day with “Wings of Love.”
Band leader Trinidadian Avril Alexander told Caribbean Life that “Wings of Love” comprises 11 sections.
They include: Terrence, Peter Pan, Raining Happiness, Fairy Goddess, Firey Desire, Swan Lake, Butterfly Catcher, Wings of Passion, Midnight Fairy and Peacock.
Alexander, who has been participating in the West Indian American Day Carnival Parade for the past five years, said about 15-20 masqueraders will comprise each section.
She said masqueraders are from several nations, including: Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Egypt and the United States.
“My masqueraders can expect to have fun, with unlimited food and drinks on the road,” said Alexander, adding that when the band was formed in 2012, her primary goal was getting the “children of the future to experience the Caribbean culture.”
She said preparations are going “pretty good” so far this year, with her daughters and a team of volunteers helping with the production.
Masqueraders will sway to the soca beat of DJ Armani.
Diamond Entertainment & Crew is located at 245 East 34th St., between Church and Snyder avenues in Brooklyn.
