West Indies former opening batsman Devon Smith is leading in runs in the Regional Super 50 competition. He has 203 runs at an average of 67.67. He leads also in the four-day competition so far scoring 456 runs at an average of 76. The 31-year-old Grenadian has so far scored two centuries in the four-day competition. Smith has won two four-Day Man-of-the-Match awards along with one in the Super 50 Tournament. He won the Super 50 trophy against Guyana when he led Windwards to a seven-wicket win with an undefeated century. He has also taken the most catches in the four-day competition, a total of 11.

The awards which are available in the four-day competition are: Headley/Weeks Trophy: winning team, Sir Vivian Richards Award: batsman with most runs; Courtney Walsh Award: bowler with most wickets; Clive Lloyd Award: fielder with most catches; Malcolm Marshall Award: top all rounder; Deryck Murray Award: top wicket keeper and the Andy Roberts Award: most promising fast bowler.

West Indies must play tougher and a more tactical game in order to defeat top opponents in the ICC charter. When West Indies bowlers are in top form they should be able to restrict the opposing side to a minimum score. The West Indies batsmen should be able get huge totals for their team and pick up useful scores for themselves. Marlon Samuels and Shivnarine Chanderpaul are two experienced players who go about their cricket in a classy but serious fashion. Both players are bent on making it tough for bowlers to remove them from the wicket.
