Caribbean music and excited chatter infused the air at the grand opening of Fe Noel Little Caribbean on June 15.
Fe Noel Little Caribbean is a store and experimental space created by designer Fe Noel. Fe Noel is a designer of Grenadian descent who also grew up in the Flatbush area. She has had a line in Target, and has dressed the likes of Beyoncé and Michelle Obama.
Travelers from as far as Toronto gathered to shop, to enjoy Caribbean-inspired hors d’oeuvres and drinks, and even meet Fe.
Fe’s store is nestled next to Allan’s Bakery, and on the same block as Labay Market. In the face of gentrification, she says the store shows the community that black business owners in Little Caribbean are here to stay.
The store also has a backyard where Fe plans to hold community events.
In addition to her brand’s own designs, Fe Noel Little Caribbean will also feature pieces from other Caribbean artisans. Nothing in the store will be featured online, giving shoppers a unique experience that they will not be able to find anywhere else.
Fe Noel Little Caribbean is open Thursday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
