Forty-two-year-old Dave Cameron, a Jamaican businessman, was elected the new president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) at the Annual General Meeting in Barbados on Wednesday, March 27. He defeated Dr. Julian Hunte who served in that capacity for six years. The vote went in favor of Dave Cameron 7-5 and his Vice President Emmanuel Nathan of Dominica defeated Joel Garner 8-4.
Garner is the president of the Barbados Cricket Association. Cameron has 10 years of WICB experience. The new president said, “I am happy and feel extremely blessed to be leading this body. We take it (challenge) on, understanding and knowing very well that we will be innovative and creative. We will use every strength that we have available and try to get West Indies cricket back to the top. I certainly believe this thing called cricket, in particular, is very passionate to all of us and I would like to say from the sweeper on the streets to the prime ministers of the region, this is very passionate to all of us and with that we take on this very huge task of building the West Indies team and taking it back to the top where we are accustomed to.”

One major area the new president of the WICB Dave Cameron should modify is the process in which West Indies teams, captain along with vice captain are been selected. West Indies need to have a group of players who have the skills and potential to put West Indies cricket at the top. With help from management that is surely possible.
Dave Cameron Hopefully Will Deliver
This is a critical stage in West Indies cricket with talented players around and with the firm and skillful leadership at the top of things can change for West Indies cricket and have that respect regained. The regional bodies must come forward and make their recommendations. The best West Indies team must always be chosen. We await the measures of change from new WICB president Dave Cameron.
