It will be “Dance, Dance, Dance” for masqueraders in Pieces of a Dream this Labor Day.
The band leaders, Trinidadians Tynsley Charles and Noelyn Joseph, told Caribbean Life at the mas camp, 635 East, 52 St., Brooklyn, that they will be “dancing away” with more awards from the presentation.
“This year, we hope to go back to winners’ row,” said Charles, as soca music jammed in the background.
“It’s a bit different from what’s out there. In the past years, it was more traditional. This year, we decided to go more casual,” he added.
Charles, who hails from Petit Valley, Diego Martin, in northwest Trinidad, said he anticipates about 120 masqueraders in 12 sections – nine females and three males.
He said, though the band is Trinidadian-based, it is “diversified,” with masqueraders from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Panama and America, among other places.
“Basically, we cover the whole Caribbean,” Charles said.
Since its formation in 1972, Charles said Pieces of a Dream, which competes in the Small Band category, has been holding its own.
In 2006, it placed second, but won its category in the next two years, including capturing seven of eight other prizes in those years.
Charles said the band also placed second in 2009, and won Male Individual last years.
