The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Men’s Selection Panel named the 15-man squad recently for the upcoming West Indies tour of Bangladesh.
West Indies wicket-keeper/batter, Joshua Da Silva was chosen to captain the team in the three four-day “Test” matches against Bangladesh “A” Team, which will be starting on May 16.
Alongside Da Silva, the 15-member squad consists of other players with West Indies Test match experience. Some of them include, left-handed opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul, left-handed all-rounder Raymon Reifer, fast bowler Anderson Phillip and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie.
The squad also welcomed three newcomers to the international level, openers Kirk McKenzie and Zachary McCaskie as well as fast bowler Jair McAllister. These three made their first-class debuts during the West Indies Championship four-day first-class tournament earlier this year.
Others players include Alick Athanaze, Yannick Cariah, Keacy Carty, Tevin Imlach, Akeem Jordan, Brandon King and Kevin Sinclair.
Lead Selector, Dr. Desmond Haynes stated that the aim was to pick a balanced team as they look to expose the players to overseas conditions.
The West Indies “A” Team will arrive in Bangladesh on May 11 and play the four three-day “Test” matches at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS). All these matches will have full first-class status. The first “Test” will be on May 16-19, second “Test” on May 23-26 and the third “Test” will be on May 30 to June 2.
