The new Cricket West Indies Board (CWI) has fired the entire West Indies selection panel and a three-man committee will select the regional team for the upcoming International Council (ICC) World Cup in England starting at the end of May 2019.
CWI President, Ricky Skerrit announced at a press conference on Thursday, April 11 in Antigua the appointment of Floyd Reifer as interim head coach and Robert Haynes as interim chairman of selectors.
He said the CWI board of directors has set up a task force to comprehensively review the system of selection with the intention of identifying the best practices that can lead to the outcome.
“The review will be carried out over the next three months,” Skerrit said.
For now Haynes, along with Reifer and captain Jason Holder, will select the West Indies team for the upcoming Tri-Nation series in Ireland ahead of the World Cup in England and Wales.
Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams said, “coming out of the review process of recruitment for a new selection panel. We are hoping that the new selection panel will be in place going into the India series in August in the Caribbean.”
Skerrit said in about five months’ time the post of interim coach will start an official search process for a new full time longer-term head coach and once that begins, Reifer will continue as head coach until such time that process ends and he will also have the opportunity to participate in that process, which will not start until after the home series against India.
