Unbeaten on 80 overnight, the 29-year-old Jamaican reached triple figures approaching the first hour of the day, before being eight out for 104, as the regional team collapsed to 247 all out in their second innings 40 minutes before lunch.
Tail-ender Alzarri Joseph, who resumed overnight on 59, batted for his career-best 86 but once he departed in the second over following the drinks break, West Indies lost their last two wickets without a run on the board as wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich did not bat because of a broken finger, which ruled him out of the last two innings.
West Indies defeat extended the regional team’s nightmare run on New Zealand soil as they have not won a Test in their last 13 appearances.
Left-arm pace bowler, Neil Wagner claimed two wickets to fall — including that of Blackwood’s — to end with four for 66 while the six-footer Kyle Jamieson finished with two for 42.
