Cricketers from the West Indies will come together to play in a charity event in the form of a Cricket Hurricane Relief Twenty20 at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017.
The teams led by former West Indies two-time Twenty20 World Cup winning captain Darren Sammy of St. Lucia and current West Indies Twenty20 and One-Day all-rounder Kieron Pollard are hoping to raise TT$1 million for the Eastern Caribbean countries, which have been hit by the passage of three hurricanes, Irma, Jose and Maria, which devastated Dominica.
The Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT), the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (T&TCB) and Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) have joined forces to stage the charity event to raise funds for the countries affected.
SporTT Chairman Dinanath Ramnarie said, “the intention of this charity match is to use sport as the unifying force for good that we all know it is and can be. It is important that our sporting heroes can stand up and be counted when their assistance is required and they can put their talent for just those spectators but those who need it most.”
