Owned by second-generation Jamaican immigrant Naala Royale Holder, the restaurant has been a cherished fixture known for its vibrant atmosphere and authentic Jamaican cuisine since opening its doors on June 2, 2004.

To mark this significant milestone, the restaurant celebrated in style with a cocktail reception and a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials and community leaders. The event was a testament to the restaurant’s impact and the strong bonds it has forged within the community.
Deputy Mayor Kathy Baxley congratulated Dunns River Lounge on its remarkable achievement, highlighting the restaurant as a shining example in the town. She praised its impeccable record of operating without issues and called it a true cornerstone of Rockville Centre.
Lionel Chitty, executive director of the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs, spoke about the restaurant’s enduring impact on the community, particularly its resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that Dunns River Lounge was the first to reopen for indoor dining after the lockdown, showcasing its adaptability and commitment to serving its patrons.
Councilwoman Laura Ryder praised Holder for her remarkable tenacity and strength in running her business so successfully, highlighting Dunns River Lounge’s positive impact on the community.
Ed Asip, president of the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce, also commended the restaurant for its significant contributions to the local business community and job creation.
Nassau County Legislator Scott Davis emphasized the restaurant’s importance to the community, while Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby of the 1st District was among the distinguished guests who joined the celebration.
Dunns River Lounge was honored with citations from each of the officials’ offices and received a proclamation for its 20 years of service. Holder expressed her gratitude, acknowledging her fantastic team, including Chef Bobby, who has been with her for more than 14 years, and her family, who have been instrumental in the restaurant’s success.
With her extensive marketing background, Holder has successfully navigated the restaurant through various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, with the unwavering support and patronage of the local community.

Reflecting on the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Holder shared how introducing takeout services and technological upgrades helped the business thrive, even doubling its growth. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the restaurant offered a 20 percent discount on entrees and hosted a well-attended all-white BBQ event.
