The 37th Annual Celebrate Brooklyn Performing Arts Festival for 2015 opens with a concert by Grammy Award winning icon, Chaka Khan on Wednesday, June 3 at 8:00 p.m. at the Prospect Park Bandshell located at Prospect Park West and 9th Street, Brooklyn. Gate will open at 6:30 p.m.
Chaka Khan is a renaissance woman, a singer, songwriter, producer, visual artist, actor, philanthropist, entrepreneur, activist, and mother. She is an international music icon who has influenced several generations of artists. She arrived on the music scene in the 1970s as an 18-year-old as lead singer of the band Rufus. During her 40-year career, she has developed an international fan base and performed on six continents.
Chaka Khan is a 10-time Grammy Award winner, having been nominated 22 times. She sings in several music genres including R&B, jazz, pop, gospel, country, classical and dance music. She has been awarded the BET Lifetime Achievement Award, the Soul Train Legend Award, and the World Music Lifetime Achievement Award. Chaka Khan has been inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame, and the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame, and also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was honored in 2013 with a street named after her, Chaka Khan Way, in her hometown of Chicago.
