The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has been ranked the fourth most popular Twenty20 league in the world by fans who took part in a recent survey by ISportsleague in India.
The CPL after five years is the biggest sporting event in the Caribbean and has attracted millions of fans from around the world.
The most popular Twenty20 league in the world is the Indian Premier League (IPL) which this year has been approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the world governing body for the sport.
This is followed by the Big Bash which is staged by Cricket Australia Down Under. At number three is the Natwest Blast in England, with the CPL in fourth.
The CPL is ahead of the Ramslam League in South Africa, the Pakistan Super League, (which recently started), the Masters Champions League, the Sri Lanka Premier League and the Nepal Premier League.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dave Cameron said there is concern over the CPL losing money and if they continue they will essentially pull out, and falls flat. He added; “I know people talk about the numbers in the stands and the fanfare, but sports today is about television rights and because we do not have Indian players in our leagues, the Indian broadcasters are not paying any money for the cricket and the UK broadcasters are not paying any meaningful money.”
