Eating good food for a good cause!
The Caribbean American Center of New York (CACNY) is hosting its eighth annual fund-raiser on July 29. The yearly food event offers some of the most popular Caribbean food for lovers of island cuisine to raise money for school supplies this fall.
The Caribbean Food Fest will be held at 1758 Schenectady Ave. between avenues I and J in Flatlands from 1–9 pm.
At last year’s event, a curry shrimp and a roast pig were very popular. On the menu this time around will be ackee and codfish, curry chicken, curry goat, crab and dumplings, pepper pot, and oxtail. And there will also be buss-up shot, rice and peas, cou-cou, callaloo, potatoes, and variety of vegetable dishes such as eggplant and string beans.
Guests will be able to buy a variety of food plates and beverages at the day-long festival, ranging from $12 to $15.
The fund-raiser is hosted in preparation for the school year. The CACNY hosts several children-centric events for low-income and homeless families in Brooklyn and Queens. The money raised will be used to buy school supplies, which will be distributed at the organization’s back to school event in late August.
