The Brooklyn-based Caribbean American Center of New York (CACNY) has said that the center completed a very successful mission in helping rural children in Jamaica.
“Despite a lack of ample financial support, the project was very successful,” said Trinidadian Jean P. Alexander, CACNY’s founder and executive director. “We were able to help hundreds of small children who reside in remote areas and attend basic and primary schools.
“Our profound thanks to those who contributed and showed support for the Caribbean American Center of New York and Giving Tree-JA reception at the Jamaica Consulate on June 21 to promote the project,” she added.
Alexander said, while in Jamaica, her team was able to provide a “Wellness Health Bus” in order to conduct multiple screenings for more than 100 families.
She said the organization also “fully-funded a soccer tournament with uniforms, shoes and trophies,” and provided new clothing for more than 100 babies and small children presented to prenatal moms at the New Market Clinic.
In addition, Alexander said CACNY distributed new clothes, books and shoes to hundreds of school children, provided the first of many STEM camps, conducted chess lessons and provided book scholarship vouchers to 36 students, “who are in dire need of financial support.”
CACNY also co-sponsored a “special graduation dinner” for all the graduates and hundreds of family members and church goers.
Alexander said the 5th annual “Charitable Trip & Program” was initiated by Diane Adlam, CACNY’s board secretary and head of Giving Tree, Jamaica.
