Community2Community (C2C) officially announces the second annual “Hope and A Future” Benefit Concert for Haïti, which will take place Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Walt Whitman Theater on the campus of Brooklyn College, located in the heart of the largest stateside Haitian community. Produced by Psalmist Productions Inc. (PPI), the festive affair commemorates the 300,000 lives lost during the tragic 7.0 cataclysmic, earthquake of January 2010 while honoring the strong, resilient spirit of Haïti and her people.
Sponsored by the New York Daily News, in partnership with WBLS FM/WLIB AM, Positive Community, New York Amsterdam News and Christian Cultural Center, the concert will bring an eclectic and cultural mix of performances to the borough of Kings to raise awareness and much needed funding for C2C’s Haïti Restoration and Transformation Pilot Project (HRTPP). The Brooklyn Marriott is the official host hotel for this cultural exchange, which will include performances from Grammy nominated, multiplatinum recording artist Oleta Adams and Haitian Kompa sensation Carimi.
Last year’s inaugural event held at Harlem’s World Famous Apollo Theater raised more than $40,000 to support the efforts of the pilot project, which has already begun to make significant inroads in the town of Petit Goâve, Haïti. “We are so thankful and proud of what we have already been able to accomplish by working with the community in just under a year,” says C2C Founder and CEO, Marie-Yolaine Eusebe. “Thanks to the generous giving of our supporters C2C is transforming lives.”
In April of this year C2C, in conjunction with local residents and community stakeholders, broke ground for a new water distribution system in Petit Goâve, Haïti. Currently the water source flows at approximately six gallons per minute and work is in progress to complete installation of the water tank by the end of the year. In addition to the water system, C2C is working with strategic partner ADIHA (Association Des Ingenieurs Haïtiens et Américaine) to restore the road affording access to commerce and continues to promote the community’s reforestation efforts already in progress along with plans to build a community school to house 350-400 students. In June, responding to a resurgence of cholera in Petit Goâve, C2C organized an immediate, on the ground intervention which included the distribution of aquatabs and water purification kits which helped save over 600 lives.
“Hope and A Future” is C2C’s signature fundraising event that not only fuels much needed resources for its philanthropic projects and initiatives, but also serves as New York City’s premiere commemorative affair acknowledging the Jan. 12, 2010 Haïti earthquake.
