A wide-cross section of Brooklyn residents came out in high numbers to take full advantage of services offered at the free annual CUNY Citizenship Now! Initiative, hosted by Sen. Kevin Parker on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Flatbush YMCA.
The collaborative effort of State Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte and New York City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, afforded immigrants, free high quality, and confidential one-on-one consultations with attorneys and paralegals to assess their immigration and naturalization needs, according to Sen. Parker, whip of the Senate Democratic Conference and Member of the Senate Democratic Conference Policy Group.
The politician, who is a member of the Senate Select Committee on Technology & Innovation, noted that the citizenship application process is daunting and cumbersome, as well as costly, adding, “When you couple that with the associated costs, naturalization seems unattainable and leaves many applicants feeling hopeless.”
The member of the Senate Democratic Minority and Women-Owned Business Task Force (MWBE), said, this is the reason it is important for him to bring CUNY Citizenship Now! to help the residents of central Brooklyn with their immigration issues.
“Today in the age of Trump, it is even more important that we ensure that our vibrant immigrant communities across our great state receive the support they need to not only flourish, but also maintain their existence for future generations,” noted the Brooklyn lawmaker who represents Brooklyn’s diverse 27th District comprising Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Ditmas Park, Kensington, Windsor Terrace, and Park Slope.
Ebony Mason, events manager of CUNY Citizenship Now! lauded the politicians for their many years of successful collaboration with the program to help raise awareness about the services affording individuals residing in New York City.
