Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. last week honored Brooklyn Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte during his annual Caribbean American Heritage Month celebration.
Diaz also honored Early Phillips, secretary-treasurer, NYS Public Transit Worker Union (TWU), at R&J Banquet Hall, 1554 Minford Pl., the Bronx.
“Our Caribbean friends and neighbors help make New York City an amazing place, and I am honored each year to host this wonderful celebration of the Caribbean and Caribbean-American Diaspora and everything this community contributes to the ongoing success of our borough and our city,” Diaz said.
Bichotte — the daughter of Haitian immigrants who represents the 42nd Assembly District in Brooklyn — said she was “incredibly honored” by the award, adding that she was heartened by Diaz’s “commitment to Brooklyn-Bronx exchange.”
She also said she was “moved” by the decision to honor her for Caribbean Heritage month, and added that she was “always happy to celebrate Caribbean unity and culture across the city.
“The borough president was a gracious host, and the event was a lovely opportunity to encourage exchanges between Brooklyn and the Bronx,” Bichotte told Caribbean Life. “The event included a live performance by a Caribbean drummer, terrific Caribbean food and lots of good cheer.”
Haitian American radio host, Dr. Barbara “Roxie Digital” De Laleu, of 95.5 WPLJ, served as mistress of ceremonies.
