The holiday spirit was alive and well in Richmond Hill and Ozone Park, thanks to the Help Us Help the World Foundation, led by businesswoman and president Keren Espinoza. On Saturday, Dec. 21, the foundation hosted its 8th annual “Make a Child’s Wish Come True” toy giveaway, delighting hundreds of children and families with gifts and festive treats.
Despite the cold and rainy weather, the event was a resounding success, with nearly 2,000 toys distributed. This heartwarming tradition is made possible by the generosity of local businesses, organizations, and community members. This year’s key supporters were the Richmond Hill/South Ozone Park Lions Club, Unicare Adult Daycare, and Sherry Algredo, Chair of Community Board 9.
The foundation’s volunteers and members have been working tirelessly to fulfill their commitments and improve the community for everyone.
“I’m so proud of my team for standing strong for the community’s kids and accomplishing our mission,” Espinoza said. “Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces made it all worthwhile.”
In addition to the toy giveaway, families enjoyed delicious treats like hot doubles, corn soup, cotton candy, cupcakes, and other snacks donated by local favorites such as Chow Nation, TrinCiti Roti Shop, and Authentic Trini Doubles. The festive atmosphere was enhanced with tables, tents, and DJ services provided by Cloud Nine Promotions and Delta One DJ Services.
Espinoza noted that the event’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the contributions of numerous businesses and community members. From PP Logistics and Elegance Event Design to Zen Lounge and Flavors Driving School, the collective effort demonstrated the strength and generosity of the Queens business community. Local leaders, including the Queens Borough President’s Office, Assembly Member Jennifer Rajkumar, and law enforcement, also lent their support.
A Year-Round Commitment to Giving
While the toy giveaway highlights the holiday season, the foundation’s work extends beyond December. Espinoza and her team are dedicated to helping underprivileged children and families globally. Recent initiatives include delivering food and gifts to children with disabilities in Trinidad, Guyana, and Haiti and organizing a spa day for more than 50 seniors at Unicare Adult Daycare earlier this month.
“Our mission is to make a positive impact, whether donating school supplies, medical equipment, or clothing… We’re always here to lend a helping hand,” Espinoza said.
As the foundation looks ahead to the new year, it is preparing to send much-needed supplies to the Dominican Republic in January.
