Guyana Spins out Barbados
Some talented and penetrative spin bowling from the Guyanese spinners against Barbados in the Regional Tournament Twenty20 match brought Guyana victory by 42 runs. Guyana was sent in by Barbados and they scored 108 runs from 19 overs all out. Openers Trevon Griffith and Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 27 runs from 29 balls. Griffith was first to go for 16 runs from 16 balls. Chanderpaul scored 23 runs from 27 balls. Guyana’s middle order fell cheaply with Narsingh Deonarine being given out by a very controversial decision. He was given out trapped leg before wicket. While the batsman indicated that he got an edge on to the pads it also appeared that the bowler delivered a no ball, clearly over stepping. For Barbados, Sulieman Benn picked up 2 for 22 and Dwayne Smith 2 for 14.
Barbados Were 6 Runs for 3 Wickets
Barbados stumbled repeatedly losing their captain Dwayne Smith without scoring. He was bowled by spinner Steve Jacobs. Jacobs got some terrific turn and he used it fully to his advantage by putting team Barbados in a shell.
Carter and Dowrich Scored 38 From 46 Balls
Jonathan Carter and wicket keeper batsman Shane Dowrich tried hard to repair the early damage that their team had. A partnership of 38 for the fourth wicket ended when Carter stuck out too long off and Chanderpaul gladly took the catch. Barbados reached 44 for 4 and then slumped to 44 for 5 and after three run outs they were bowled out for 66 runs, their lowest Twenty20 score in regional competitions. Steven Jacobs got 2 wickets for 13 runs from 4 overs, Veerasammy Permaul 2 for 14 from 4 overs, Christopher Barnwell 2 for 11. Guyana won the regional Twenty20 championship in 2010 when Narsingh Deonarine was the hero.
