West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph grabbed 6 wickets for 12 runs to record the best-ever figures in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, as he made a sensational start to his IPL career by firing Mumbai Indians to a 4-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad recently.
In his debut match following his late call-up for the tournament, the 22-year-old finished with 6 wickets for 12 runs from just 22 deliveries, a performance that sent the hosts in pursuit of a target of 137, but crashed to 96 all out in the 18th over.
Joseph surpassed the previous best of 6 for 14 by left-arm seamer Sohil Tavir 11 years ago and became only the fourth bowler to take six wickets in an IPL match.
With Sunrisers tottering on 88 for 6, Joseph ran through the lower order to take three of the last four wickets to fall.
Another West Indies player to shine at the IPL was all-rounder Andre Russell, who smashed another breath-taking cameo to surpass 200 runs in just four innings.
Russell scored a 13-ball unbeaten 48 to take KKR from the jaws of victory to defeat with a five-wicket win.
In pursuit of a daunting Royal Challengers 206 for victory, KKR made light work of their target in the end with a daring run chase
Batting at number six, Russell entered the contest in the balance at 139 for 4 in the 16th over and lost Captain Denesh Karthik soon afterwards for 19, with 53 runs required from 18 delivers.
But the Jamaican clobbered a four and seven giant sixes, dominating an unbroken sixth wicket stand with Shuban Gill (three not out) to win the match.
