The Society HAE will take over the Brooklyn Museum’s parking lot to host the ultimate multimedia block party ‘Beats, Blocks & Brooklyn’ on Saturday, June 2 from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Having helped set the museum’s current one-day attendance record of 24,000 in July 2010, Society HAE’s Beat’s, Blocks & Brooklyn is sure to be one of Brooklyn biggest block events.
Beats, Blocks & Brooklyn is reminiscent of the classic Brooklyn events of the 90s where community, great music and good times were the focus.
Brooklyn’s favorite DJ crew The Ahficionados alongside Jasmine Solano will spin those infamous tracks that made you wax poetic about the ‘Borough of Kings.’ Attendees can expect to dance to everything from Biggie to The Beastie Boys.
The Borough’s top photographers provide visuals. An eight-foot screen serves as their medium to tell the story of the people, the blocks and the energy of Brooklyn.
First Saturday attendees are invited to be active participants at Beats, Blocks & Brooklyn. Attendees will have the opportunity to pose for portraits with Brooklyn themed props and be photographed by award-winning photographer Delphine Fawundu. Portraits will be posted to instagram, twitter and facebook.
Attendees are also encouraged to use their mobile devices to capture images throughout the night that represent Brooklyn and upload them to the web tagged Brooklyn Musuem and BeatsBlocksBrooklyn.
This event is part of the ‘Target First Saturdays’ programming at the Brooklyn Museum. On view will be Keith Haring: 1978-1982 the first large-scale exhibition to explore the early career of one of the best-known American artists of the 20th century.
Participating Photographers
Jamel Shabazz, Delphine Fawundu, Laylah Amatullah Barrayn, Michael July and Lafotographeuse.
